With over 15 years of experience in the construction industry, including 5 years at a structural engineering firm and more than 19 years as a building designer, I have developed extensive knowledge of the building industry. This includes property acquisition, residential construction, agricultural buildings, commercial buildings, horticultural facilities, institutional structures, and more.

Only recently have I come to fully appreciate the value of sharing this knowledge wherever possible. Too often, clients purchase properties or homes without conducting adequate due diligence beforehand. This research has traditionally been left to realtors, but when it falls short, it can lead to frustration, scope changes, and even litigation.

To address this gap, I created the Build Hub, a central platform serving several purposes:

For homeowners planning to purchase their first property, renovate, or add on to their home, the Build Hub offers direct access to local realtors, building designers, builders, trades, and general contractors for questions and guidance. We are also developing a forthcoming service called PAR Reports (Property Analysis and Research Reports), designed to provide in-depth research on a property before a homeowner commits to purchasing it.

For general contractors and builders the platform provides a space to connect, collaborate, and network on projects. For instance, a builder with surplus fill material to dispose of could connect with another contractor on the forum willing to accept it and share transportation costs.

For trades, the Build Hub offers a resource for clarifying construction details and exchanging guidance on best practices. For example, air barrier placement has shifted in recent years from interior 6-mil poly vapor barriers to exterior sheathing membranes. Achieving an airtight building envelope now depends on getting specific installation details right, and overlooking these details can significantly reduce the likelihood of passing a blower door test.

Employers in the building industry can post job openings on the Build Hub to reach qualified candidates.

Candidates can browse available job opportunities and apply directly through the platform. This feature is not intended to compete with established platforms like LinkedIn, but rather to offer a more localized, industry-specific alternative focused exclusively on the building and construction industry.
